The Wisdom Of: Dr. Brené Brown

Dr. Brené Brown is a research professor who discusses the intersection between vulnerability, shame, courage, and connection. The topics she discusses are based on her own research and the empowering suggestions she offers us are from an evidence-based perspective.

Although I strongly believe her work could benefit nearly anyone, her research findings are particularly powerful for the (very) large collection of us who sometimes question whether we are good enough or worthy enough - and who may feel shame and choose to hide the vulnerable parts of ourselves in response to these questions.

I first came across Dr. Brown through a TED Talk, titled The Power of Vulnerability. This talk offers a wonderful overview of some of her intial research and writings and it inspired me to read some of her books as well. Since that time, her concepts have become a valuable addition to my work with clients (many of whom I encourage to watch the above TED Talk) but also an opportunity for personal growth as I strive to cultivate these concepts into my own life.

Dr. Brown has written numerous books, which tend to build off one-another as her research and understanding continues to grow and expand. Her work is accessible and easy to read, yet rich enough in content that you may find yourself opting to reread sections or take notes anyways.
